Paper Wasp Nest
I found this the other day. It's the beginning of a paper wasp's nest (it's shiny because I put varnish on it). The nest is a tessellation of hexagons - incredible. The Queen will build the nest until it is walnut size (pictured here, it is 2cm across). Her offspring will continue with nest construction as the colony grows.

Needle felted bunny

I needle felted this bunny for some friends. It is about 5 inches tall (including ears). I need to buy different sized needles to get the wool to bind more compactly.

The Bunny Band, 1895
This is a commemorative print of The Bunny Band of 1895. They ran the New York circuit for 3 years before calling it quits and returning to Ontario's woodland. The Kitty band of 1899 soon took over their popular circuit, and a commemorative print will soon be available!See my Etsy shop for more information.

Spring Gathering print

I wanted to share this print I made. I think it is so cheerful and lovely. Everyone is out enjoying the sunshine, much relief from the cloud covering!

Meet Minnie, needle-felt bird
My second crack at needle-felting. This time the bird figure has wings, feet and tail feathers. This took me about 2.5 hours to make. Hat's off to good needle-felters. I will post some felting artists I admire, soon.

Drunkard's Dream?...doubt it
This is a mock up for a CD cover I've been invited to design. It's a tad bit of a nightmare! I think alcohol something needs to be in the design. If this is a go, I'll do a full drawing with more detail and embellishments i.e. drunkards.

First crack at dry needle felting
I went to Birkeland Brothers on Main street to pick up some lovely dyed wool. They card and dye their own wool. Take a look at the link to see how it is done. This is the first project I made to get a feel for working with wool, how it shapes, how to add pieces, how to build up areas. It will take some practice and patience to create even lines, e.g. a mouth. This sculpture is supposed to be a bird, on a branch, wearing a beret. My husband asked me "where's its legs and wings?" For the next one, I will try to create something more realistic.Oh ya, this took me 2.5 hours to felt.
